Erasmus+ Incoming Mobility: PhD (3rd Cycle)
Welcome to the Conservatorio di Musica “Stanislao Giacomantonio” of Cosenza. We are delighted to support international doctoral candidates (3rd Cycle) joining us through the Erasmus+ programme. Our institution is committed to fostering academic and artistic excellence by providing a vibrant environment where researchers and musicians from across Europe can engage with our faculty and specialized resources. This page serves as your starting point for information regarding mobility procedures, academic integration, and the administrative requirements necessary for a successful exchange period. We encourage all incoming PhD students to coordinate closely with their home institution’s Supervisor and International Office, and a potential supervisor and the International Relations Office of Cosenza to ensure that their stay in here is both artistically enriching and academically productive.
Essential Information for Incoming Doctoral Candidates
To ensure a smooth transition and a successful research stay at our Conservatory, please refer to the following guidelines regarding your mobility period.
1. Research and Artistic Supervision
Doctoral mobility at the 3rd Cycle level is highly research-oriented.

Supervisor Assignment: Before arrival, you will be assigned a faculty member who will supervise your artistic research and guide you through our specialized library and archive resources.

Facilities: As an Erasmus+ candidate, you will have access to all students services.
2. Duration
- Long Term mobility: minimum 2 months – maximum 12 months
- Short term mobility: minimum 5 days – maximum 30 days
3. Administrative Checklist
To finalize your registration, you will need to:

Health Insurance: Ensure you possess a valid European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) or equivalent private coverage for the duration of your stay.
- Non-Eu Candidates:
-Study visa and Italian Stay Permit: Must apply for a study visa in the nearest Italian Embassy/Consulate in the place of residency before entering to Italy. Our Institution will provide an acceptance letter to those candidate selected in support of the needed documentation. Candidates staying more than 90 days in Italy must apply for a study stay permit within 8 days from arrival, the document must be submitted to the Immigration Office of Cosenza Police Station (Ufficio Immigrazione Questura di Cosenza). You must collect the stay permit kit at any Italian Post Office (Poste Italiane) in Cosenza that have the service called “Sportello Amico”, after filling all necessary forms and attaching the documents requested you can pay to send the stay permit kit though any Italian Post Office in the city. After payment, you will be provided with a stay permit payment receipt which will be your temporary document before obtaining the stay permit card and you will be given an appointment at the Immigration Office of Questura for finger-prints and for any missing documents;
-Tax Code (Codice Fiscale): Required for any official administrative procedure in Italy. We highly recommend to apply for the Italian Tax Code (Codice Fiscale) before your arrival in the nearest Italian Embassy/Consulate in the place of residency.
4. Language Requirements
While our primary language of instruction is Italian, we reccomend incoming doctoral candidates to have a working knowledge of Italian (level B1/B2) for daily communication. Many of our faculty members are available for tutorials in English; please verify your specific research requirements with your supervisor in advance.
5. Nomination/Application Deadline:
- Winter Semester (November- February) or entire a.y. (November – July):
Nomination: June 30th
Application: July 31st
- Spring Semester (March – July):
Nomination: November 30th
Application: December 31st
6. Application required documents:
Applications must be sent to the e-mail uri@amministrazione.conservatoriocosenza.it within the deadlines indicated in point 5.
The documents are the following:
- Valid National ID or Passport;
- CV in English or Italian;
- Nomination letter from your institution (with information concerning grant, course programme, year of enrollment and semester application);
- Trancript of Records
- Learning Agreement/Learning Agreement for Traineeship proposal
7. Acceptance letter:
If your application is confirmed, you will receive and Acceptance letter from our Institution.
Before Arrival:
- ensure your study/research plan in the LA/LAT is approved and signed by you and both your home institution responsible and the host institution responsible.
- There must be an Inter-Institutional Agreement between your home Institution and host Institution.
